Key themes
AI-first strategy driving margin expansion and medium-term targets
How the narrative shifted
- AI-first strategy as growth engine: Management attributes 60% of new deals to AI capabilities and expects AI platforms to drive future revenue.
- Margin expansion through efficiency: Cost management and operating leverage drove 343 bps EBITDA margin expansion; further 50 bps improvement guided.
- TNQTech integration success: Completed integration of TNQTech into Lumina Datamatics, strengthening digital content outsourcing and contributing to Digital Operations growth.
- Macro uncertainty and demand softness: Management acknowledges softness due to war and global economic uncertainty, but maintains guidance.
- Risk of in-house automation and captives: Key risks identified are customers automating internally or setting up captives, which could shrink outsourcing budgets.
- Shift from long-term annuity deals to shorter AI projects: AI projects are shorter in tenure (3-9 months) but deal sizes are increasing, altering revenue visibility.
- Cash deployment via M&A: Robust net cash of ₹710 Cr to be used for bolt-on acquisitions; no immediate buyback plans.
Operational commentary
- AI-first strategy driving 60% of new deals as AI-led, including wins with SBI Life (TruAI underwriting), an American pet wellness provider (AI voice agent), and an American consumer products company (KAiBRE/KAiSDLC for legacy modernization).
- Integration of TNQTech into Lumina Datamatics completed, consolidating position as a top-3 digital content outsourcing company globally and contributing to 16.1% YoY growth in Digital Operations.
- Digital Operations revenue up 16.1% YoY driven by TNQTech, while Digital Technologies grew 6.1% YoY with margin impacted by continued AI R&D investments of ~₹40-50 Cr annually.
- Deal sizes increasing but project tenures shortening to 3-9 months for AI engagements, reflecting industry shift away from traditional multi-year annuity deals.
- Competitive landscape characterized by well-funded local auto-tech startups and growing in-house captives (GCCs), rather than direct competition from larger IT peers like Persistent or Coforge.
- AI R&D investment maintained at same level (~₹40-50 Cr) for FY27 to keep pace with fast-moving AI landscape and platform development.
- Cash-rich balance sheet with ₹710.2 Cr net cash; management in early-stage M&A dialogues but no mature transactions; buyback not ruled out but no immediate plan.
- Salary increments rolled out effective April 2026 and fully accounted for in Q1; no margin disruption expected.
Analyst Q&A
Q. Are there plans for a buyback or better capital allocation like acquisitions given cash balance may again reach ~₹700 Cr by year-end?
We are in dialogue with some companies from an M&A point of view. And no conversation has matured to the level that we need to sort of report it, but we are in dialogue with some companies.
Q. Is the high single-digit revenue growth guidance for FY27 inconsistent with the 43% PAT growth in Q1?
What we are highlighting is the revenue growth which is Y-o-Y growth of 9.9%... The 43% growth is for the PAT. We will continue to maintain the healthy EBITDA margins.
Q. What is the competitive position given larger players like Persistent and Coforge in digital tech and operations?
We don't tend to come across them too much in the customers that we are targeting. But we do see competitive situations coming up with many local auto tech companies who are well funded... also see competition from internal teams, from GCCs.
