Signal: Margin pressure

The read

Q1FY27 marks Pepperfry's first profitable quarter (Consumer Tech segment profit ₹4.18 Cr vs full-year FY26 loss of ₹3.00 Cr), validating the offline-retail expansion thesis. However, consolidated EBITDA margin halved to 38.4% as the low-margin Consumer Tech revenue (67% of total) swamped the higher-margin brokerage/leasing lines; this is the natural mix effect of scaling a marketplace. PAT growth (30%) lagged revenue growth (480%) due to margin drag and higher finance costs. EPS fell YoY because of equity dilution. The company resolved prior claim that Q4FY26 was Pepperfry's first profitable quarter, but the current quarter shows that profitability continued.

P&L walk

Revenue soared 480% YoY to ₹128.28 Cr, entirely on the back of the Consumer Tech segment (Pepperfry) which reported ₹86.34 Cr (vs nil a year ago). EBITDA grew 156% YoY to ₹49.29 Cr but margin collapsed from 72% in Q1FY26 to 38.4%, reflecting a heavy cost base from the scaling Pepperfry business. Excluding other income (₹3.02 Cr, 25% of PBT), operating profit was lower; PAT at ₹12.27 Cr was aided by a ₹7 Cr deferred tax credit recognized at the Pepcart subsidiary.
